Double coated dogs have two coats to assist with keeping them insulated from extreme temperatures and to regulate their body heat. Some breeds that have two coats are German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, Golden Retrievers and Siberian Huskies and there are certainly more. A question we get asked a lot is about shaving a double coated dog. This can cause severe complications for a double coated dog such as skin issues and difficulty regulating body temperature in both winter and summer. We highly recommend against doing this and instead will suggest a more regular grooming schedule that includes our de-shedding service.
