I had received a call from the rescue owner from I had adopted my previous dog from years before. She told me that she had just gotten a new dog in rescue named Denver whose owner had passed away. When authorities arrived at the house to do a welfare check on his owner, he refused to allow anyone in the yard. He was still protecting his owner even after his passing. He was taken to the county pound where he was observed by staff and a veterinarian. The rescue was able to provide me with a copy of all his records. There were several entries made such as “baring teeth”, “growling”, “lunging at cage door”, “not suitable for adoption”, and finally “ok for rescue”. The rescue owner told me that after getting into the rescue, Denver began showing improvement and she would like for me to meet him. It had only been a few months since my last dog’s passing but I made the decision that it was time to meet a new dog.
