When I arrived at the rescue to meet Denver for the very first time, he was outside playing with a ball in his mouth.  As I went over to pet him, he growled at me.  I later learned that he was toy aggressive and he just thought I was trying to take his ball away.  That didn’t deter me though.  The rescue owner offered for me to take him home for an overnight stay to see how things would go.  On the ride home in my jeep, I laid my hand down on the back floorboard.  Denver walked over and laid his head down in my hand.  It was at that moment that we had bonded forever and I knew that I would not be bringing him back to the rescue the next day.  The next day, I called the rescue owner to tell her that I would in fact not be bringing him back.
